Happy 2023 Legislative Session

The 2023 legislative session is here! This year's session is scheduled to run from January 9th through April 23rd.

This session, the EJC will support the Office of Civil Legal Aid’s 2023-25 biennial budget request by focusing on basic civil legal aid services, including the vendor rate adjustment. OCLA’s request for basic civil legal aid services and the vendor rate adjustment is vital to protecting existing client service capacity. Failure to fund this request will result in a reduction of clients served by legal providers across the state.

We need your help to communicate this message to our legislators. We have the best chance of gaining support for our ask if we can show the need for client services across the state. This means that we need to reach legislators far and wide via email, phone calls, in person meetings, etc. We will NOT be hosting an in-person lobby day this year, as we believe the power of these one-on-one connections throughout the session will be more impactful than one day of meetings.

SECURING ESSENTIAL STATE FUNDING FOR CIVIL LEGAL AID

In addition to our direct lobbying, we will work with you to

  • Identify opportunities for interaction with legislators by e-mail, phone, text or in person.
  • Assist with scheduling when meetings are appropriate.
  • Assist with message development.
  • Coordinate and assist with testimony if deemed important for House or Senate budget hearings.
  • Respond to your questions.
  • Schedule stakeholder meetings as needed.

Stay tuned for more updates this session!
